Mindful 90 is a 90-day mindfulness program that pairs a physical plant-growing kit with a guided app. Each day, you complete simple, mindful tasks—like watering your plant—while building habits that help you feel more grounded, present, and balanced essentially "growing" into the best version of yourself.

PROJECT CONTEXT

As the sole designer for Mindful 90, I created the app screens to deliver an engaging, intuitive experience that motivates users to build daily mindfulness habits. I focused on clear navigation, a calming visual style, and seamless integration with the physical plant-growing kit. I handled all aspects of the design process—from concept to final visuals—ensuring the digital experience complemented the tactile, real-world elements of the product to foster both usability and emotional connection.

⚠️ We live in a world that moves fast. We’re constantly disconnected, distracted, and overwhelmed. We want to be more present, more mindful—but building that habit is easier said than done.

Many people feel overwhelmed by mindfulness routines that require significant effort or learning.

⚠️ THE CHALLENGE

IDEATION

We wanted to create an experience that would resonate with Gen Z—our primary audience—by pairing mindfulness with something they already love: plants. The idea was to make mindfulness tangible through visible, daily growth, turning the plant into a natural progress tracker.

To ensure the experience was easy to integrate into busy routines, we designed the app to deliver short, actionable tasks that could be completed in just a few minutes a day. The plant served as both a visual motivator and a metaphor for personal growth—reminding users that small, consistent actions lead to transformation over time.

Feedback from early testers guided us in refining the task flow, simplifying reminders, and enhancing the plant-growth tracking feature. These adjustments ensured the app felt rewarding, intuitive, and seamlessly woven into daily life—helping users grow into their best, most mindful selves.

🌱 Combining the physical and digital

Mindful 90 bridges the gap between the physical and digital by pairing a real plant-growing kit with a guided app. The plant serves as a living progress tracker—its visible growth reminding users of their own development. This tangible connection keeps motivation high and helps users stay consistent, turning mindfulness into a daily habit rather than a passing intention.

In addition to the plant as a visual tracker, through the app, users can track their streaks, goal completions, and activity history directly on their personal profile and dashboard. Paired with photo journaling, these visual cues keep motivation high and make progress feel real—helping users stay consistent and encouraged throughout the full 90 days.

🔔 Daily Reminders

Mindful 90’s gentle reminders are rooted in research on habit formation. Studies from the National Library of Medicine show it takes about 2–3 months to build a sustainable habit, with automaticity plateauing around day 66. A consistent daily cue—like our tailored notifications—helps integrate a habit seamlessly into someone’s lifestyle.

As a team, we wanted to create a mindfulness experience that felt approachable, meaningful, and sustainable. Our collaboration balanced physical product design with digital experience design, and through testing, we discovered the power of making progress visible and tangible. By combining different perspectives, we created a concept that not only guides daily mindfulness but also resonates with Gen Z users in an authentic way.

REFLECTIONS

Being the only designer on the project challenged me to manage the entire design process—from early concept sketches to final prototypes. I learned to prioritize features, stay focused on user needs, and create a cohesive visual system that supported both usability and emotional connection.

Testing with 20+ Gen Z users highlighted the importance of simple, rewarding feedback loops. I saw firsthand how visual progress (like streaks and plant growth) motivated users, reinforcing my belief that usability testing is essential to aligning design with real human behavior.

This project pushed me to bridge the gap between digital design and physical interaction. Designing for both the app and the plant kit helped me think more holistically about habit formation and user experience, strengthening my ability to design for long-term engagement rather than one-off interactions.
